Just days after integrating Semiotic AI, The Graph Foundation awarded a $ 48 million grant to The Guild, part of the group of leading developers of open source infrastructure GraphQL (a data query language developed by Facebook). as the lead developer of The Graph ecosystem. .

Founded in 2018, The Graph indexes web3 blockchain data and makes it securely accessible to developers and users through a decentralized marketplace where queries are sent, query processing prices are negotiated, and micropayments are transferred. . The company already offers support for indexing data from 25 different blockchain protocols, including Ethereum, NEAR, Arbitrium, Optimism, Polygon, Avalanche, Celo, Fantom, Moonbeam, IPFS, and PoA. All developers need to do is create open APIs called subgraphs to define what blockchain data should be indexed by The Graph and how it should be stored.

The solution is important to technical decision makers, because prior to this venture, teams had to develop and operate proprietary index servers that required significant engineering and hardware resources and broke important security properties required for decentralization.

The Guild to help develop subgraphs

With the latest grant, which is expected to run for four years, The Graph will benefit from The Guild’s help in accelerating subgraph development and improving the blockchain’s indexing system. According to a statement, the group, which is a primary contributor and leader of many open source GraphQL projects, will collaborate with other developers in The Graph ecosystem and work on improving features such as subgraph composition. , analysis and mutations. It will also develop new subgraph standards, new features and query capabilities of The Graph Node, allowing developers to build feature-rich applications faster using The Graph.

Eva Beylin, director of The Graph, noted that the move means that core GraphQL developers will focus on creating subgraphs to dramatically improve the functionality of dapp development that could catalyze the overall growth of Web3.

“The Guild’s experience in innovating with GraphQL is unparalleled – they are the best-placed team to contribute open APIs for The Graph and to meet the needs of Web3 application developers,” said added Beylin.

This is The Graph’s fourth grant since launching its Mainnet in December 2020. Previously, the company had integrated Semiotic AI, StreamingFast, and Edge & Node. The total funds allocated for this purpose amount to $ 248 million.

“The Graph is really like the Google of blockchains. The chart indexes all the data on the blockchain and serves that data. So that’s how developers access data and deliver it to their users, just as Google set out to index the web back then. The chart only does this for blockchain data. And we believe blockchains are the future of the internet. So that will become all data in the world, ”Tegan Kline, co-founder of Edge & Node, told Venturebeat in an interview in June 2021.
