FC Goa will be looking to push forward with new found form as they plan to deny ATK Mohun Bagan their third straight win, when the two teams face off in a second leg of ISL-8 in Bambolim on Tuesday.
After going winless for five rounds, FC Goa clinched success in spectacular fashion by registering a 5-0 landslide victory over Chennaiyin FC in their previous outing. The Goans, currently ranked ninth with 18 points from 16 matches, face the daunting task of winning their remaining four matches to have a chance of qualifying for the play-offs. It largely falls to Jorge Ortiz to make FC Goa’s hopes come true. The Spanish forward sparked Goa’s resurgence, scoring his first-ever hat-trick and taking his tournament tally to seven goals so far.
ATK Mohun Bagan, who are now ranked second with 26 out of 14, appear to be a more composed team in terms of consistency, having gone unbeaten in the last 10 matches. The side, which claimed their second consecutive victory by convincingly beating NorthEast United FC 3-1 in the last match, made rapid progress under the guidance of Juan Ferrando, who took over from Antonio Lopez Habas at the start of the season.
There have been injury issues for some of his key foreigners in attack like Roy Krishna, Hugo Boumous and Carl McHugh but that hasn’t stopped ATKMB’s progress as his Indian strikers like Liston Colaco and Manvir Singh continued to shine with extraordinary performances.
The last time the two teams met in the first phase, ATKMB ran out a 2-1 winner. The Kolkata side will be looking to keep their form intact as a win will see them level on points with current leaders Hyderabad FC (29 out of 16).
