Maruti Suzuki announces that its all-new midsize SUV will be called the Grand Vitara. Bookings for the new SUV are underway for ₹11,000
The new Grand Vitara will be built by Toyota and will share its underpinnings with the recently unveiled Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV. The world debut of the Maruti Grand Vitara will take place on July 20. Both SUVs are expected to go into production next month.
The Grand Vitara name is not new to Maruti – the second generation Grand Vitara (XL7) and the third generation Grand Vitara SUV were sold in India as complete imports. The upcoming mid-size SUV will have India as one of its manufacturing centers and will be exported to several overseas markets.
The second-generation Brezza SUV also dropped the “Vitara” prefix, allowing Maruti to use the brand for the upcoming car.
The Maruti Grand Vitara, now in its fifth generation, is a sister model to the Toyota Hyryder and will be built at the latter’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka. Both SUVs will use Suzuki’s Global-C platform which has already formed the basis of popular models, such as the two generations of the Brezza for India, the S-Cross, as well as the outgoing Maruti Grand Vitara SUV, which was sold overseas.
The SUVs will also share powertrains – 1.5-litre mild-hybrid and 1.5-litre powerful hybrid powertrain options – and will also have an AWD option.
While the two SUVs will be more or less identical from the sides and rear, their front styling is expected to be different. The Grand Vitara will have styling cues similar to the Suzuki Across SUV sold in Europe. Other aspects like body panels and interior elements will also be common to both SUVs.
The feature list will also be similar on the Hyryder and Maruti Grand Vitara. With amenities such as a panoramic sunroof, premium leather interiors, soft-touch instrument panel and full hybrid powertrain, the new Grand Vitara will be the most technologically advanced and feature-rich SUV ever. from Maruti for India to date.
Expect Maruti to reveal more details about the new Grand Vitara SUV ahead of its worldwide debut on July 20. Pricing will be announced in the second half of August 2022, after Toyota Hyryder pricing is revealed.
