Philadelphia shooting: 4-year-old unharmed after shooting sends 2 women to hospital

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A shooting in the Point Breeze section of Philadelphia injured two women Saturday night.

It happened around 5:15 p.m. on the 1600 block of South Taney Street

Investigators say the women were innocent bystanders, sitting inside a house when they were beaten.

Police say several people were inside the house when two gunmen opened fire.

A four-year-old child was inside the house when the shots rang out but was not injured.

Police say at least 21 shots were fired.

“It appears that two men in black clothing got out of a Jeep Cherokee, dark in color, got out and approached a house on this block, (which) at the time had an open door. These two men with guns in their hands opened fire in that house,” Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace said.

A 21-year-old woman was shot in the back and an 18-year-old woman was shot in the lower leg. Police said they were both taken to a local hospital and are in stable condition.

Investigators do not believe the injured women were the intended targets. A man was also unharmed on the first floor.

No arrests were made.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.
