Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona are in loan talks for centre-back Clement Lenglet, according to a report.
Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona are reportedly in talks on a possible loan deal for Clement Lenglet.
The 27-year-old has struggled to regular starts against the likes of Eric Garcia, Ronald Araujo and Gerard pricks last term and is not supposed to be in xavierplans moving forward.
Lenglet is therefore expected to be heading for the Camp Nou exit door in the coming weeks, and there’s no shortage of Premier League suitors there.
Tottenham and Arsenal have both been credited with an interest in the France international, although the Gunners are reportedly prioritizing a move to Ajax Lisandro Martinez and also hosted Guillaume Saliba return to the Marseille club.
Tottenham could therefore have a clear race to sign Lenglet, and according to ESPNthe Lilywhites and Barca are locked in talks over a temporary switch for the centre-back.
The report claims that Barca still hope to offload Lenglet on a permanent basis, but they will accept a loan exit as long as Tottenham promise to cover a large part of his salary.
Lenglet can now have talks with Spurs manager Antonio Contewho will try to convince the undecided defender to move to the Premier League.
The former Sevilla player made just seven La Liga starts for Barcelona last season, and is believed to be open to an exit from the Catalan club after a four-year spell.
Lenglet has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 159 outings for Barcelona since his £32.3m arrival, winning the La Liga title, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana in that time.
The Frenchman remains under contract at Barcelona for another four years, but the imminent arrival of Andreas Christensen will push him further down the pecking order.
Tottenham have already signed Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Yves Bissouma this summer, and a new centre-back should be Conte’s next priority.
Alessandro Bastoni was seen as Spurs’ main target in the last three but the Italian’s agent has insisted he will not leave Inter Milan in the current window.
Milan Skriniar has also emerged as a target, but Paris Saint-Germain are front and center for the Slovakia international, forcing Tottenham to widen their search.
The Lilywhites have also been in talks over a move to Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence but are struggling to meet the Championship side’s asking price for the right-back.
